FLÂNEUR
NEW URBAN NARRATIVESThe project challenges artists to generate new readings of urban territories, taking the concept of the flâneur as a starting point, and using the city—viewed as a constantly shifting social kaleidoscope—as a physical context. Beyond its artistic and public space intervention dimensions, Flâneur encompasses several other components, including workshops, masterclasses, artistic residencies, creative camps, and conferences. These initiatives aim to foster a critical analysis of contemporary photography and contribute to a reflection focused on public space as a social territory.
During its two-year duration, Flâneur operates across the 13 partner cities. The work is produced by invited photographers undergoing artistic residencies in each city, as well as by local photographers, thereby blending external and internal perspectives. This is further complemented by work developed within workshops aimed at the local population. The work produced in the partner cities is presented in exhibition installations within public spaces, bringing artists' works—traditionally destined for the white walls of museums and galleries—into squares, gardens, and streets. Concurrently, this process deconstructs and democratizes access to artistic creation, sharing it with a diverse and heterogeneous audience.
Flâneur produces a cross-sectional and unique overview of the social dynamics that shape urban territories. The specificity of this "portrait" lies in the fact that it is produced by a large and diverse group of creators who, starting from a common theme, cast a fresh eye on the plurality of realities that make up the urban space. Flâneur shares this contemporary, plural vision of their territory with the public, inviting them to flâner through their cities and rediscover them.
