One year after the entry into force of the Statute for Cultural Professionals in Portugal, this public meeting was conceived as a space for critical analysis and debate, aiming to take stock of the actual protections introduced and the serious structural gaps that remain.
The discussion focused on the systemic limitations of the new legislation—specifically the government's refusal to incorporate essential measures to guarantee fundamental rights and adequate social protection for intermittent workers. Key issues regarding the sector's crisis emerged during the conversation: bureaucratic delays lasting months in the disbursement of new benefits for work stoppages, and the ineffectiveness of safeguards against income instability.
The event featured the participation of—and direct dialogue among—major trade unions, collectives, and professional associations from the national cultural landscape, including Amarílis Felizes (Plateia), Nuno Salgado (Procurarte), Rui Galveias (CENA-STE), Nathalie Mansoux (Associação Portuguesa de Realizadores), and Maria João Garcia (REDE).
